READ THE FORBES ARTICLE: THE IOWANS STOPPING FACTORY FARMS, ONE AT A TIME

On July 25, 2024, Christine Ro with Forbes Magazine, published an article about factory farms in Iowa and spoke with DWD president, Chris Jones. Here is what Christine Ro said about DWD:

“While many of the early Iowa campaigns against CAFOs were driven by hyperlocal concerns about what would happen to someone’s property and quality of life, “it’s become a broader-based movement over time,” reflects Food & Water Watch’s Breon.

Even decades in, the movement continues to be renewed. June saw the launch of Driftless Water Defenders, a small activist group in the pollution-vulnerable area Driftless. Jones, the water expert who is also the president of Driftless Water Defenders, explains, “Bedrock in this area is very porous. It’s what we call karst topography, and it commingles with the streams very easily.””
